Background

Canning average pigs is certainly a messy and time consuming task, since they are far too big to fit in a can. At last, this problem is no more. By condensing the cuteness of several ham-related animals, we have successfully created a canned-ham animal or…Haminal.

Crystal Chesney-Thompson created her Haminal character as a combination of pig, hamster and guinea pig – perfect for canning. A few years back, she released that character as a cute pink plush. And after selling out the first run of plushies in back to back San Diego Comic Cons, Crystal has released version two of the Haminal plush.

Packaging

The Haminal packaging is the best we have seen for a plush figure. It’s “squeezed” (actually it fits perfectly) into a Spam-like plastic can. All four sides of the packaging have entertaining reading as well as fun illustrations. On one side are the nutritional facts, while the other contains serving instructions.  On the rear of the container is a recipe as well as the information from above.

The Figure

The Canned Haminal plush is approximately 4.5” long by 3.5” tall. There also is a mini version of the Haminal that is about 3” long by 2” tall. The soft pink plushie is part pig, part hamster and part guinea pig. The rectangular piece fits perfectly inside of its plastic can packaging.

There is also a Canned Haminal book written by Crystal Chesney-Thompson. The 28-page long full color publication tells a rhyming story of how different folks enjoy eating their Haminals.

Our Opinion

Like I said above, this is the best packaging that we’ve seen for a plush. It’s one area that’s often overlooked when talking about plush figures, but it’s an integral part to the Haminal plush. What would a can sized ham product be minus the can?

When it comes to the actual plush, it’s fairly close to the illustrated version. The illustrated version has slightly longer hair on its’ ears, face and tail. It’s a little darker pink. And there is a little more space between the nose and teeth than what’s on the plush.

This is one of the more unique plushies available. It’s cute, soft and goes great with a slice of pineapple. (That slice comes when you purchase a Haminal through their official website)
