Background

Star Wars fans probably remember Captain Raymus Antilles from one of the original trilogy’s most memorable death scenes. Following the boarding of the Tantive IV in Star Wars: A New Hope, Darth Vader placed a nice chokehold on Capt. Antilles.  The good Captain wouldn’t talk, was lifted a good foot off of the ground, had his neck broken and was thrown against a wall. Kaput!

Sideshow Collectibles
recently released the Captain Antilles 1:6 scale figure, which will end up being the perfect complement to their upcoming Darth Vader piece.

Packaging

The packaging for this figure is the standard - high quality - Sideshow Star Wars fare. It has a front flap that is held in place with a magnet.  On the inside, there is one panel with background information about the character and the other has a window panel that features the figure and accessories.  The rear of the box features several still photos featuring Captain Antilles from Star Wars: A New Hope.

The Figure

The Captain Antilles 12” tall figure is a part of Sideshow’s Militaries of Star Wars line. It uses the Art S. Buck body, which features over 30 points of articulation.

The character comes dressed in the following: a tan jacket with four actual pockets; matching tan pants; near knee-high shiny faux leather boots; brown belt with silver buckle; Rebel Trooper helmet with chin strap and antenna.

The accessories include the standard Rebel Trooper blaster, and extra set of interchangeable hands and the 12” Star Wars display stand. This figure is limited to a total run of 2,500 pieces.

Our Opinion

The Captain Antilles figure was released close to the Rebel Trooper 1:6 scale figure, so collectors can reenact the opening scene aboard the Tantive IV.

The figure does not include a lot of extra accessories, which has been a strongpoint with Sideshow’s 1:6 scale Star Wars line. The character did not receive much camera time, so there probably wasn’t much to choose from.

It’s difficult to determine the accuracy of the face sculpt, since the actor who played Antilles had less than a minute of face time. There is a good deal of intricate sculpting work with the head. The wrinkles of the face and neck stand out, as well as a bad case of crow’s feet.

Unfortunately, I’m not digging the paintwork as much as the sculpting.  It’s primarily a complaint about the paint on the figure’s hair.  I’m not sure if it’s been painted to look like Antilles has highlights or if there just needed to be another coat of brown paint.  But there are sculpted hair segments near the ears and forehead that are void of paint. It’s easier to overlook that on this figure, because, in all likelihood, you’ll be displaying Captain Antilles with his helmet on.

Overall, we like this figure, although not as much as the Rebel Trooper.  It’s a solid addition to Sideshow’s ever expanding Star Wars collection.  And while collectors are still clamoring for Chewbacca and C-3PO 1:6 scale figures, I’m glad to see Sideshow attacking some of these smaller roles.
