REVIEW: Raul Softie
Fuzzy Balls Apparel is known for their…well…apparel. Designer Roy Wasson Valle has released a number of shirts for men, women and kids. And one of his most popular characters is that of the little skull-faced Raul.
You might remember FBA’s Los Huevos line of little resin eggs. Raul was depicted in one of the four sculpts from that line. And now they’ve released him as a plush in the Raul Softie.
Nothing really in the way of packaging since it’s a plush. The Raul Softie does have a tag for the Softies line, as well as a pack of little stickers.
The Raul Softie is approximately 12” tall and completely handmade. The hand screen-printed and hand-sewn plush is made with all new materials. All of the black lines are screen-printed onto the fabric. The plush has a little tail as well as a sewn on patch that reads “another Fuzzy Balls family product”.
For a company that hasn’t been known for producing plush products (especial handmade ones), the Raul Softie is very well done. Fuzzy Balls Apparel has already added several other characters to their Softies line: Raul Ghost Softies (Black, Gray and White) and the Demon Pig Mask Softie Pillow.
After a quick look over, there are no major quality issues with the plush. The stitching is well done, and the screen-printing actually covers up most of the seams. That same screen-printing really gives the plush that handmade look. The lines aren’t symmetrical; some are a little closer than others (which I actually like) and some look a little worn off.
Some folks might think that all of the black lines are overkill. However, if they are trying to make the Raul Softie resemble Raul from the El Huevos line…they had to go crazy with the black lines.
