Background

Tonner Doll Company’s Women of Power line includes five of DC Comics’ top women superheroes (and one villainess).  So far, we’ve reviewed three of the TonnerDirect exclusive TCFs.  And we’re currently up to Mera, the Queen of Atlantis.

Mera is the wife of Aquaman who first appeared in Aquaman #11 (September 1963).  Apparently, after losing her son to Aquaman’s archenemy – the Black Manta – the couple became estranged.

Packaging

Mera is packaged in the DC Stars box similar to the rest of the Women of Power line.  She’s secured in the box using ribbons and is protected with plastic and a hairnet.

The Figure

The Mera, Queen of Atlantis Tonner Character Figure is approximately 16” tall and has 13 points of articulation (neck, ribs, waist, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and knees).  The figure uses Tonner’s high-heeled hard plastic.  Her rooted red hair is styled with curls.

Her outfit consists of: a green strapless, sequined gown; a royal crown that includes shells, a starfish and beads; sea shell earrings; pantyhose; faux leather high heels.  The piece also includes a display stand.

Like the rest of the TonnerDirect exclusive Women of Power line, Mera is limited to a run of 250 pieces.

Our Opinion

I wasn’t even aware that there was a Mera character.  It might be that Aquaman is one of the lesser-known comic book superheroes.  There hasn’t been an Aquaman film – unless you count Vince on Entourage – so that means we haven’t really been exposed to the king or queen of Atlantis.

Nevertheless, Tonner released Mera to complement their Aquaman Tonner Character Figure.  Mera, like the rest of the Women of Power line, is dressed in a gown that gives the characters’ traditional outfit a more fashionable look.

Out of the four Women of Power Tonner Character Figures we’ve reviewed to date, Mera would be our second favorite - following the Black Canary: Blonde Bombshell TCF.  We have to point out her outfit, which uses a number of shells to help accentuate that this is the Queen of Atlantis.
