SDCC 2008: Super7

Img_5072

If I had hit the lottery right before Comic Con, the first place I would have hit was Super7...where I would by one of each thing they were selling.  Unfortunately, I didn't win.  But I did pick up a SDCC Exclusive Cobra Commander inspired Hood Zombie vinyl, which is almost as good.

Aside from exclusives, we were happy to see a number of new prototypes.  Most of the buzz was about the giant kaiju inspired Stormtrooper, but we were glad to see plans to release Le Merde's Hollis Price in vinyl.

SDCC 2008: STRANGEco

Img_5131

The line for STRANGEco's SDCC colorway Vivisect Playset set was one of the longer (and more surprising) at the show.  But we were diggin' Greg "Craola" Simkins' Cap'n Rotnclaw.  I might have to wait until the red (more crab-like) colorway is released.

And I'd love to see the above Mars-1 piece released in that size.  Wouldn't you?  Also on display at the booth were a number of SDCC exclusives from Max Toy Co., King Ken Series 1 (mini figures), a number of new tokidoki pieces and John K's Tenacious D figures.

I'm usually not overcritical of figures, but I don't like how the Tenacious D turned out.  They were designed to look like the vinyl figures that were released in the 1960's.  So they actually wanted a sloppy-looking paint job.  I love John K's work and know that he'll be releasing more impressive figures with STRANGEco.  I'm guessing that if the same number of people who saw Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny buy these figures, a run of 500 or so figures might sell out.

SDCC 2008: Munky King

Img_5034

At Comic Con, the Munky King booth is always busy with artist signings.  As far as exclusives, the all black Koibito (which appears to be part fish, part man) might have been the creepiest.  The Monkey King (Metal Edition) and Eyegore - Ace of Spades were also available for Con goers.  But our favorite pieces in the booth were Luke Cheuh's Black In White and Amanda Visell's Snake Oil...both available in the near future.

SDCC 2008: Sideshow Collectibles

Img_5197

The Sideshow booth is always one that I venture by with guarded anticipation...it's mostly guarded because I know the old bank account will be taking a hit in the coming months.  This year, they announced what might be my favorite figure in their Star Wars line: the Rebel Fleet Commander (pictured above).

They also revealed that they will be producing Stormtrooper and Darth Vader figures (the previous ones they carried were from Medicom).  And speaking of Medicom, they will be releasing the above pictured Jawa VCD, which appears to be in scale with the 1:6 scale line.
