Background

A small demon named Keek dreamt of one day becoming a true Devil.  Lucifer eventually sent him to walk the Earth and create chaos and fear amongst all men.  It quickly became clear that Man himself had already created far more chaos, fear and destruction than Keek could ever have caused on his own.  Depressed and mortified by what he saw, knowing that his task had been taken from him before it began, Keek walked aimlessly into the darkening world, doomed to forever be…the saddest devil.

Toby Dutkiewicz created the character and story behind The Saddest Devil.  And his Devils Head Productions (you might have heard of Devils Head Records) produced a vinyl figure of Keek aka The Saddest Devil.

Packaging

The Saddest Devil is packaged in an interlocking plastic tray, which is inside of a window-front box.  The story of the character is print on the back panel.  There is a minimal artwork on the box, with most of it looking like the flames of hell.

The Figure

The Saddest Devil stands approximately 6" in height with five points of articulation (arms, legs and tail).  The Grey Colorway features flames in two shades of grey as well as white and red eyes, a blue tear and a red tattoo (i am pure evil) on its left arm.  The character has horns and a tail, like a devil, and arms that resemble Popeye’s.

The first colorway is limited to a run of 250 pieces worldwide.  There have been three different colorways announced, but only the grey version has been released.

Our Opinion

When I saw the first sculpt photos of this figure, my initial thought was “Boy!  That’s creepy!”  But something happened between the sculpt and the final production piece that completely changed the way this figure looks…the paint scheme.  Add the different shades of grey and some flames and it doesn’t look like a giant human head with arms and feet.

The piece is obviously a very unique looking devil.  Usually, they are red and black with a little goatee and a pitchfork.  But this guy is just a giant grey head with arms, legs, horns and tail.

The quality of The Saddest Devil is slightly above average. You’ll see some seams on the feet and arms, as it appears they arms injection molded rather than rotocast.  But, overall, it’s a fun new piece and will definitely appeal to those folks who enjoy devil characters.
