REVIEW: DreaminGirl’s gini-gini
The world of DreaminGirl was imagined…or dreamt up, if you will…by Ru Sun. Back in 2006, the Brooklyn-based artist started up blackpeach with her partner Keith.
The first plush character released by blackpeach is known as gini-gini. Coming straight out of the DreamForest, the magical guinea pig is DreaminGirl’s favorite pet. Currently, the plush is available in four different colors (blue, pink, green and yellow).
If you made it out to NY Comic Con, you would have been able to grab a special gini-gini package including a black drawstring bag and a mug.
While the mug is available for purchase, the first 25 gini-gini plushies sold via the blackpeach online shop will include a free drawstring bag. If you’re number 26, you will end up getting your plush in a plastic bag.
The gini-gini plush is approximately 15” long by 9” tall. It’s so large that if someone steals your pillow, the gini-gini can be used as a replacement. All of the plushies are white with the color patterns around the eyes, on the rear and in the nostrils. You can choose from one of four colors: blue, pink, green and yellow. (For our review, we obviously chose the blue colorway)
The gini-gini plush is one of those pieces that you need to see in person in order to realize just how large it is. And it’s not only big, but it’s unique. I can’t remember any other artistically done guinea pigs…can you?
The one minor detail I like is that the plush has staggered legs. If you look at it from the side, you can see all four legs. It gives the impression that the gini-gini can stand on its own. (It really can’t)
So if you like cool, artsy plushies…or you always wanted a guinea pig and lack the attention needed to care for it…you’ll want to check out the gini-gini plush.
