Background

The newest vinyl figure from Crazy Label is a joint project with the artist Tweedlebop (California-based Michael Fleming).  Putrid Pal is based on Fleming’s comic of the same name.  The figure is available in four different colorways, which were voted on by fans.

So, do you want to know about the Putrid Pal?  Well, you could read the comics…but here’s a little summary:

The Putrid Pal is an undead French boy who lives under the sea. He just wants a good friend to play with, but none of the non-monster kids of Woe Beach want to have anything to do with him. He grunts out single words from time to time, only in French.

No one knows where he came from…

Packaging

Crazy Label did a nice job on the packaging for this figure.  Each colorway uses the same box, which is decorated with original artwork from Tweedlebop.  There is a window front, and the vinyl is secured in an interlocking plastic tray.

The Figures

Putrid Pal is made of rotocast vinyl and stands approximately 5” in height.  It has a single point of articulation in the neck.  While most of the figure is painted matte, the portion that’s dripping off of its skeleton face is glossy.

The figure is currently available in four different colorways: Original (green face), Champignon (brown face), Blanc et Noir (black face) and Tricolore (red face).  Each of these versions is limited to a run of 300 pieces.

Our Opinion

It’s always interesting reading some of the background stories behind the vinyl and plush products covered on our site.  While some of them are established, sometimes the product comes out simply based on a cool design.  Putrid Pal is actually a running web comic from Michael Fleming about a creepy, French-speaking undead boy who wears a beret.

Crazy Label always chooses interesting artists and products to pursue and produce.  They often pick the lesser-known artist who has a great design that we SHOULD know about.

Concerning the actual figure, there are a few minor issues with the paint on Putrid Pal’s sweater.  Lines are sculpted between the differing colors.  While it should be white, sometimes paint bleeds into the area. But, overall, the actual figures are well produced and well-priced.
