The Bumrush vinyl figure is a joint project between J-Roo (the character designer), Dynomight NYC (the toy company) and ESC-Toy (the production). But what’s the story behind this tough looking character with a bag on his head?
WHAT the hell is he?! Bumrush is tough, SUPER tough! He is not a toy! He gives what he gets. He hugs as hard as he hits. He could be your BFF, or he could make you wear your ass as a hat. The choice is entirely up to you.
The figure is packaged within a window-front box (a cut-out of the character’s head) and a plastic tray. The front panel has a sketch of the Bumrush character in a business suit. The cutout card on the back panel is clearly inspired by 80’s style action figures such as G.I. Joe. And if you read it closely, you’ll definitely have a laugh or two.
The Bumrush figure stands at approximately 7” in height and has 5 points of articulation (wrists, arms and waist). Made of rotocast vinyl, the original colorway is limited to a run of 250 pieces.
The character is wearing a bag over his head, with holes for the ears and horns. If you hadn’t noticed, Bumrush is only wearing a pair of tighty whities…err…briefs. It appears that he was in a little scuffle, hence the bloody bandage on his hand. Oh…and he also has a nice set of man-boobs.
My first impression when I saw photos of this figure was “What in the world is this?” An overweight devil with a bag on his head? Whatever it is, Bumrush definitely does grow on you.
The character is pretty entertaining. The man-boobs and underpants aside, the hand drawn look to his face is what draws you in. Actually most of the paintwork on the figure looks as if it were hand sketched. It’s different, but I’m digging it.
The sculpting is also well done. There won’t be any balance issues, and some of the details, such as the waistband on his drawers, are impressive.
