Background

In 1934, Walt Disney produced the classic Mickey Mouse film – Two-Gun Mickey.  Set in the Wild West, the animated short stars Mickey Mouse as the heroic cowboy, Minnie Mouse as the damsel in distress and Pegleg Pete as the evildoer.

Medicom chose the Two-Gun Mickey short for their Vinyl Collectible Doll (VCD) line.  They produced a Mickey Mouse based on the gunfight scene with Pegleg Pete, and a Minnie Mouse that shows her pointing her pistol at Pete (right before he bit the gun in half).  Sideshow Collectibles distributes this line in the United States.

Packaging

The large, window-front box features photos of the line of Mickey Mouse related VCD figures.  There’s not much artwork on the packaging, but the photos are helpful.  The figure is packed inside of a two piece plastic tray.

The Figures

Two-Gun Mickey stands approximately 8” tall (to the tip of the gun) by 6 ½” wide.  The rotocast vinyl figure has zero points of articulation.  The sculpt is of Mickey Mouse holding up his guns, which takes place during the shootout with Peteleg Pete and his gang.

The Western Minnie vinyl figure stands 7” tall by 6.5” wide and also has no articulation.  The sculpt is based on a scene from the short where Minnie draws her gun on Pegleg Pete, and then he promptly bites off the end of the gun.

Since the film is completely in black and white, the figures follow suit.  They are done in black, white and various shades of gray.

Our Opinion

I love classic Disney animated shorts.  If you remember those early films, you recall that Mickey Mouse was Disney’s main attraction.  The character eventually took a back seat to Donald Duck and Goofy in the Disney produced shorts.  And while Two-Gun Mickey wasn’t the most well known Mickey Mouse based short, nor was it the best, it’s still a great film for Medicom to base their VCD line on.

Comparing the two figures, Minnie is slightly more complex, since she has a flower in her hat and eyelashes (which might be overlooked details).  But while Minnie might have balance issues later down the line, I can assuredly tell you that Mickey will never tip over.

And after watching the animation again, I must say that Medicom nailed the sculpt and coloring.  Although, how difficult is it to work in black, white and gray?  Check it out for yourself:
