Background

Hot Toys took the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End license and produced a 1/6 scale line as well as their Cosbaby mini line.  If you’re not familiar with the 3” tall Cosbabies, they could be lumped into the “block figure” genre of designer toys.  Although, the only thing that is blocky is the torso.

The Pirates lineup includes 5 different figures of 4 different characters: Jack Sparrow (2 different outfits), Will Turner, Sao Feng and Davy Jones.  And Sideshow is distributing the line in the United States.

Packaging

While it might appear that the line is blind boxed, it's not.  Each figure is packaged in the same windowless mini box, but there is a small square beside each character’s photo.  Look for the check mark, and you'll know which figure you’re getting.

The Figures

The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End line is made up of five
different figures: Jack Sparrow (with or without and coat), Will
Turner
, Sao Feng and Davy Jones.

Each of the Cosbaby figures measures approximately 3” in height and has
7 points of articulation (head, arms, hands and legs).  All of the
weapons and hands are removable.  Those weapons include guns, swords
and knives.

Our Opinion

Here’s a somewhat relevant thought…Why is it that when I read Cosbaby, I think of the Huxtable kids from The Cosby Show?

So, I’m a little torn over this line.  There are some quality issues
with the figures.  Although it’s only noticeable on some of the
characters, there is a rather obvious seam on the neck area.  Also, the
hands and jacket cuffs fall off quite easily, so watch out and try not
to lose them.  And even though the box says that the coat is removable,
Will Turner’s broken arm can vouch that it may be easier said than done.

So why am I torn?  Well, the Davy Jones Cosbaby is great.  It’s
intricately detailed and well worth the price.  And at $6.50, you
really won’t be disappointed with any of these figures.  That’s like a
gallon of gas, right?  It’s just that the humans (although I’d single
out the Jack Sparrow figure as being above average) don’t seem ship
ready.
