Background

Tonner Doll Company continues their Harry Potter figure line with the release of Fawkes (Dumbledore’s beloved phoenix).  Unlike the Tonner Character Figures, this piece is grouped with other various accessories.

If you’ve never seen the Potter films, you probably wouldn’t know that Fawkes is Dumbledore's pet phoenix.  Much like the mythical creature, whenever Fawkes dies, he bursts into a flame and is reborn out of the ashes.  The character first appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (the second book).

Packaging

The window front packaging allows you to see both the figure as well as the stand.  While you probably won’t be displaying this piece in the packaging, it’s nice to be able to see the details before you purchase (if you’re doing so in person).

The Figure

The Fawkes figure set stands approximately 9” in height.   This includes both the figure and the bird’s stand.  While they have been sculpted separately, Fawkes needs to set upon the stand due to its long tail feathers.

The figure is sculpted in resin and detailed with colorful plumage on Fawkes’ head.  It’s painted mostly in a dark red with some gold details.

Our Opinion

Harry Potter enthusiasts are no doubt excited to see Fawkes - the mythical phoenix – released as a part of the Tonner lineup.  The piece is set to scale with the rest of the Tonner Character Figures.  And the sculpted detail, as well as the painted feathers, adds to the realistic look of the piece.

I did find a few places where the resin set a little funny.  So in those spots, Fawkes was lacking some of the hand sculpted details that are seen throughout the rest of the piece.

Overall, it’s intricately detailed and a must have for those Potter fans who are looking to complete their collection.
