REVIEW: Lord Voldemort Tonner Direct Exclusive
I’m not sure if you’ve heard of the Harry Potter novel or movie series, but it’s somewhat popular with kids and adults alike. Tonner Doll Company was lucky enough to grab the Potter license for their line of Tonner Characters Figures. And they haven’t let fans down. The newest character in the line is the Tonner Direct Exclusive Lord Voldemort.
Lord Voldemort, who was born Tom Riddle, is the main villain in the Harry Potter series. Otherwise known as He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, Voldemort has most notably been portrayed by Ralph Fiennes. This iteration of the Dark Lord is from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
The Harry Potter packaging is similar to other lines of Tonner Character Figures. The Harry Potter logo is placed on a black box. Tonner is notorious for protective packaging, and Voldemort is definitely secure.
The Tonner Direct Exclusive Lord Voldemort is nearly 19” in height with
13 points of articulation. It’ll tower over nearly everything in your
collection…except maybe the bookshelf you keep it on. This TCF is a
limited edition of 1,000 pieces.
Voldemort is dressed in a huge, flowing robe. Underneath the outer
robe is another robe that buttons at the neck. While the outer robe is
made of a silk-like material, the inner is more of a polyester blend.
And if you want to go a layer below that, the figure is wearing a gray
spandex shirt with what appear to be MC Hammer parachute pants.
Like most Tonner Character Figures, the head is a detailed sculpt made
of vinyl, while the body is made of a hard plastic. The only accessory
the bare-footed Voldemort includes is his trusty wand, which can be
attached to his hand with a clear rubber band. As always, the figure
includes a sturdy display stand.
It’s time for full disclosure: I might be the only person in the world
who hasn’t seen any Harry Potter movie nor have I read any of the Harry
Potter novels. That being said, this Tonner Character Figure makes me
want to check out some of the films. Maybe it was a preconceived
notion that the stories were for children, or maybe it was just all of
the kids dressed up with round black glasses on their noses and
lightning bolts on their heads.
To be honest, the figure is a little creepy. That means that Robert
Tonner’s sculpting work is perfect, because the character is definitely
creepy. While Tonner created an FAO Exclusive version of Voldemort
(wearing a suit), I prefer the Tonner Direct Exclusive. In the flowing
black robes, he gives the aura of an evil Dark Lord. It will be an
impressive addition to anyone’s collection.
