Background

Some fans of the Spider-Man comic series had issues with the way Sam Raimi’s films have differed from the original comics.  Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker’s first love in the comic, however, she’s not introduced until Spider-Man 3.  Mary Jane Watson was not seen until issue #42, 11 issues after Gwen first appeared.  However, Mary Jane, portrayed by Kirsten Dunst, has been in all three films.

In Spider-Man 3, Bryce Dallas Howard plays the role of Gwen Stacy.  Howard is the daughter of Ron Howard (and the goddaughter of Henry Winkler!).  Tonner Doll Company, having the Spider-Man 3 license, created a Gwen Stacy Tonner Character Figure based on her likeness.

Packaging

The Spider-Man 3 packaging is similar to that of the DC Stars line.  The black, rectangular box has the film logo on the front.  Each figure is secured with padding and ribbons.

The Figure

The Gwen Stacy Tonner Character Figure is approximately 16” in height.
She’s an authorized likeness of Bryce Dallas Howard.  The figure is
made of hard plastic (body) and vinyl (head) with rooted blond hair and
has 13 points of articulation.

Gwen is dressed in a “matte jersey dress with mock wrap front and
includes a hand-fringed shawl”.  (That sounds much better than what I
would have written – a black dress).  She has matching earrings and
necklace, as well as black shoes and a black headband.

Each figure is packaged with a display stand. The Gwen Stacy TCF is limited to a run of 2,500 figures worldwide.

Our Opinion

I wasn’t very familiar with what Bryce Dallas Howard looked like.
(It’s not like Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire, who are easily
recognizable.)  But, as always, Robert Tonner has done an amazing job
sculpting an authentic likeness.

Tonner Doll Company is nothing if not consistent.  The quality of their
sculpt, clothing and figure is always top notch.  And if we would give out an
award for best hair, it would probably go to the Gwen Stacy TCF
figure…gotta love the 80’s bangs.

One last point…the display stand packaged with this figure is great.  I
find display stands annoying.  They usually pinch the figure’s clothes
and can be seen around their midsection.  However, this stand is hidden
under the doll’s dress, and is secure.  Kudos.
