There really hasn't been a groundbreaking documentary about the designer toy scene.  We need our own version of Style Wars.  Toys Are Us: A Revolution in Plastic is out to show the world about the hobby...the addiction...the religion that we practice.  Brian Stillman and X-Ray Films have put together a short film that is helpful for newbies, as well as being fun and informative for designer vinyl veterans.

The DVD, which runs about 25 minutes, has interview segments with artists such as: Brian Flynn, Kano, Frank Kozik, Patrick Ma, Mars-1, Tara McPherson, Mark Nagata, J Neth, Jermaine Rogers, Erick Scarecrow and Voltaire.  Not only are the artists represented, but some of the more intense collectors show off their crazy collections.

Toys Are Us is a must-see if you're new to the designer toy realm.  If I was teaching Designer Toys 101...I'd play this DVD and then give you kids a little pop quiz.  And for all of you who've been "in the game" since way back in the early 2000's...you'll enjoy hearing the opinions of many of the artists who were interviewed.

There are even a few extras on the DVD.  You can listen to the music that was sampled throughout the film, but I'd recommend watching some of the extended interviews.

You can pick up Toys Are Us: A Revolution in Plastic DVD for $19.95 from Film Baby.  If you're interested in stocking them for your shop, contact DKE Toys for wholesale inquiries.  And the DVD is Region 0 and NTSC, so it should be playable anywhere in the world.
