Background

Aquaman first appeared in More Fun Comics #73, way back in 1941.  More Fun Comics would later become DC Comics, and Aquaman would eventually join the Justice League.  His superhero powers include the ability to breath underwater, talk with sea creatures, superhuman strength and speed.

Tonner Doll Company has released several of the female figures in their DC Stars line, but Aquaman is the first of the male superheroes to hit store shelves.  Their Tonner Character Figures (TCFs) are super-detailed figures that measure well over a foot in height.

Packaging

While Tonner does not have character specific packaging, they do have a specific box for their DC Stars line.  As always, they insure the protection of your valuable figure by packing it with ribbons, plastic bags and foam.  (That also makes it easier to unpack)

The Figure

The Aquaman TCF is 17” in height, which is about an inch taller than
the female Tonner Character Figures.  The new super hero male body
sculpt has 14 points of articulation.  Aquaman has rooted blonde hair…I
believe it stays in place by using hair gel. (no kidding)

Limited to only 1,000 pieces, Aquaman is decked out in his traditional
super hero outfit.  His extras include a set of rubber gloves as well
as a display stand.  The rubber gloves are a little tough getting on,
but it’s well worth getting the authentic look.

Our Opinion

Fans of Entourage will remember Vincent Chase’s (Adrian Grenier)
portrayal of the aquatic superhero Aquaman.  Unfortunately, Hollywood
hasn’t decided to make a film based on the hero who talks to dolphins
and crabs.  It’s true that he doesn’t have the Superman or Batman
following, but if they’ve made films of lesser-known superheroes
(Blade, Elektra, Daredevil, Supergirl, Ghost Rider, Catwoman, Steel,
etc.), why not Aquaman?

Tonner has decided to release Aquaman before Batman or Superman.  Some
people might think that they should have started with the most popular,
but my opinion is that this might be the way to go.  There are plenty
of 1/6 scale Superman, Batman and Spider-Man figures available…but who
has created a highly-detailed Aquaman in this size?

And that’s why we like the products that Tonner creates.  They ARE high
quality.  Of course, you’re going to pay a little more…but it’s worth
it, right?
