Toys Are Us: A Revolution In Plastic DVD

X-Ray Films new documentary on designer vinyl toys - Toys Are Us: A Revolution In Plastic - will be released on DVD at this summer's San Diego Comic Con International.

The movie explores the creative, sophisticated, and oftentimes challenging world of designer vinyl toys through the eyes of the designers and collectors who help create it. The film features interviews with such
artists as Frank Kozik, Patrick Ma, Tara McPherson, Kano, Erick Scarecrow, Mark Nagata, Brian Flynn, Mars-1, Jermaine Rogers, J Neth and more, as well as collectors and fans.

Toys Are Us was filmed on location at the artists' and collectors' homes and studios, various toy stores, and SDCC 2006, and features a soundtrack with music by Mindless Self Indulgence, Longway, Brian McCarty, Stick Shift, and I, Synthesist.

The DVD will be released on July 25th, 2007, at SDCC, where it will be available exclusively at the Toy Tokyo booth. Following the convention, the film can be ordered directly through the X-Ray Films web site.

In an effort to remind you of our Shiitakes Sightings contest (where winners get a ton of cool prizes), we - along with ESC-Toy - are going to be posting a new segment called Get to know your Shroom.  We'll be introducing you to the new characters in Erick Scarecrow's Shiitakes line. 

First up is Escape:

Cardboard Spaceship and Subtext present Love:Hate.  The show features works by over 50 artists including Jim Koch, Bucky Lastard, Tristan Eaton, Jenna Colby, Zoso and many many more.  Come by to check out the works, sip a beverage, enjoy some music and meet many of the participating artists.

Check out the events from July 26th through the 28th from 6PM-ish to 10PM-ish.
