REVIEW: Rocky and Alien 3D Movie Posters
Last year, McFarlane Toys launched their 3D Movie Poster line. They already have some of the most notable films, particularly a number of cult classics, in production. The company uses the original theatrical movie posters as their inspiration, and then sculpts a 3-dimensional likeness of that poster.
For this review, we are looking at the Alien and Rocky 3D Movie Posters.
Each movie poster is set in a cardboard box, without a front covering. Since the line is meant to be displayed on its own, the packaging is somewhat insignificant.
Each 3D Movie Poster measures approximately 8 ½ wide by 12 ¼ tall by 2
inches deep, and can be displayed on a wall or any flat surface. I
would suggest the wall hanging, since the rear of each poster is blank.
The Rocky 3D Wall Poster shows the Italian Stallion raising his arms at the top
of the Philadelphia Art Museum’s steps. It’s one of the most
recognizable poses, and if you’re ever been to Museum of Art, you’ve
probably tried running the steps as well.
The Alien 3D Wall Poster depicts a glowing alien egg sac, and with a
click of a button, a small light illuminates. It’s the spitting image
of the original space/science fiction/horror film poster. Now, if they
can only simulate the smoke that was coming out of the egg.
It’s sort of surprising that no one had thought of doing 3D movie
posters before last year. But McFarlane has done a great job, and
chosen a number of well-known films (Robocop, Jaws, Friday the 13th, A
Nightmare on Elm Street, Rocky Horror Picture Show). All of the films
have been around for a while so there is a built-in fan base.
