REVIEW: Sideshow Toys’ Vampire Spike

Background

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the few films that made a successful transition to the small screen.  The television series ran over 7 seasons and is still a cult favorite.  Sideshow Toys snagged the 12” license for the Buffy toy line, which stands at over 20 figures.

One of those figures is Vampire SpikeJames Marsters took the role of Spike (supposed to be the villain of the week).  By the 4th season, Spike was a show regular and, ironically, in love with Buffy.

Packaging

The packaging is your normal 12” Sideshow box.  It’s loaded with pictures from the show, pictures of the figure, and information.  The front flap would allow you to display the figure in box…if you prefer that route.

The Figure

The 12” Spike figure uses the normal Sideshow body with 30 points of articulation. It comes packaged with a Buffy the Vampire Slayer display stand.  Accessories include: a sawed-off shotgun (from “Fools for Love” episode), shotgun shells, a broken skull and a gold amulet (from “Chosen” episode).  Spike is decked out in black clothing: black boots, black leather trench coat and black pants and shirt.  The figure is a limited edition run of 6,000 pieces.

Our Opinion

Sideshow Toys continues to create some of the best 12” figures on the market.  The Vampire Spike is just another in the line of elaborately produced figures.  The head sculpt is great - even capturing the scar over Spike’s left spike.  The clothing is of excellent quality.  And just check out the intricate details, such as being able to actually insert the shotgun shells into the gun.
