I always enjoy giving a great album it’s due...that's why my music recommendation for this month is Amy Rigby’s “Little Fugitive”.  If you’ve never heard of Amy Rigby, shame on you!  You’re missing out on witty, smart songwriting and a truly unique voice.  I was first introduced to this amazing artist by chance…I went to see a concert where she was the opening act.  I actually enjoyed her performance more than the “main talent” and have been a fan ever since.

The music can be categorized as alt.country.  (And for those of you who see country and go eek! Folks like Wilco and the Old 97’s are also considered alt.country.  And her album was recorded in Brooklyn!)  Amy’s songs have a great tune to them, but you would be cheating yourself if you didn’t listen to the lyrics.  Take, for example, Are We Ever Gonna Have Sex Again from her “Til The Wheels Fall Off” album (2003).  Who else could come up with lines like: Screw making love/It’s way too ambitious/Let’s get down on the rug/After you finish the dishes?

This new release begins with the rockin’ Like Rasputin.  Album standouts are Dancing With Joey Ramone, I Don’t Wanna Talk About Love No More as well as her cover of The Things You Leave Behind.  It’s not often that an artist can continue to top his or her last album, but it appears that Ms Rigby has done just that.   From track 1 through 12, this is one of the most solid and enjoyable albums I’ve purchased in a while.
